the new kayak from Pyranha. The Everest is the new creekboat to join the Pyranha line-up. It is going to be a specialist expedition boat with lots of room, softened edges, more rocker and more volume than the Burn.

M-Wave Sessions

So the M-Wave has been flowing now for a couple of weeks and I've been lucky enough to get there twice so far this summer.

The first trip wasn't so great as I had just gotten stitches in my elbow and it was super tender. After half an hour I whacked it on my boat causing it to bleed for a while, thus ending my day. The second trip was a little more successful, with my stitches out and arriving to perfect water levels I had the best session I've ever had at M-Wave.

2007 Colorado Summer

So here is a little video just recapping all my boating from this summer in Colorado. The Rivers include... the Big South, the N.Fork of the S.Ark, Lake Creek, Treasure Canyon, the M-Wave and the Salida playpark. Unfortunately my buddy Jared has the video of my run down Yule Creek, which was my favourite run so it is not included in the video.

The video is also a bit of a shout out to my sponsors and friends & family for helping me to be where I am today, especially my girlfriend Nicole...

After I finished work on Saterday afternoon I was hanging out at CKS in Buena Vista when buddy and CKSquad manager Chris Menges showed up with the Crested Butte boys (Larsen, Milineke, Milo & Micheal), all about to head to the Big South to camp the night and run demshitz on Sunday. I quickly got hold of my boss who was feeling generous and let me have the day off. Lucky I had all my creeking gear in the car but all my overnighting gear was back in Salida which meant getting it would add another hour of driving onto the already 4-5hour drive ahead of us. So luckily my buddy and CKS back of house guru Joe lent me abunch of warm stuff including a tent & sleeping bag... cheers Joe. We arrived at the Big South takeout at about 8:30pm where we found little space to camp but we managed to snake a camp spot from some other kayakers... thanks

After a nice night of sleep (thanks to Joe) I was super pumped up the next morning & ready to run some gnargnar. The night before we had met up with Alex Hotze & his friend Kyle who joined our group on the river. On the river the group was seeming a little big & moving quite slow. So we decided to split the group in 2. Alex, Kyle, Larsen and I went first as we wanted to bomb most of it without scouting and we planned to have the shuttle run by the time the others got out. The rest took a little more time and scouted more as they didn't know it as well but luckily they had there fearless leader... Menges to guide them down. Alex and I fired off everything on the run without any hicups, which is a nice feeling. Kyle and Larsen elected to walk Double Trouble which has a big hole at the bottom. Due to us bombing most of the run we didn't get that much video but here is a little of me running the main rapids.

Salida playpark

So this is what keeps me on my toes and not bored out of my mind between creeking trips. The Salida playpark has to be one of the best in the country if not the world! As far as playboating goes I definitly prefer a good wave to a good hole but when it's as good as Salida its hard to decided.
Anyway here is a little video of Nicole and I playing the in the park during the last week or so.

Yule Creeking

So a week or so ago Myself, Paul Gamache and team pyranha (Dave Fusilli, Jared Seiler and Graham Seiler) decided we should hit Yule Creek of the Crystal drainage, CO. Know as the steepest crik in CO we were all pretty amped for the run.

The trip went well, with us all running demshitz with few incidents. I had one minor hicup after alecting to run first on the big one (oriental massage). As the probe I helped to work out the perfect line for the rest of the boys... as a result my line went a little sour. But good on the boys for all cleaning it once they knew what not to do. thankfully all my hand paddling in the Salida hole payed off, as I was able to hand role at the bottom and handboofed the shit out of the 20ftr directly below.
Fusilli managed to stick a huge loop in his burn at the bottom of Ball Check which was insane!! Wall Check has to be my favourite rapid in CO... I got so high on the wall and was going so fast I almost pooed myself.

All in all the coolest creek in CO

Thanks to Jared and Graham for filming and editing the video... those boys are the sickness

Colorado bounty

Treasure Canyon!!

After missing an opportunity to go to Treasure Canyon on Sunday I was super stoked when I saw Mick Hagadorn and friends at Bensons on Monday evening while they were planning a trip to Treasure the following day. After organising when and where to meet in the morning I went home to get some much needed rest for the big day ahead. Treasure Canyon is a relatively new run as it was only discovered in 2004/05 and hasn't been run much since. This could be partially due to its remoteness and just the whole unknown factor that it brings. It feels like your running a First D even though you know its been done before.
I tryed to get as much video as possible during the day but due to the runs long and exausting character we didn't want to spend too much time messing around. We managed to get all the main drops but unfortunatly the camera is a little old and some of the shots are a little messed up... but enjoy anyway.

The boys and I had a great time on this run and I think it's safe to say we would all love to go back... what a beautiful place... it truly is a treasure.

FIBArk is on the way

So it is Monday morning and I"m sitting around my house in Salida, CO cleaning up my stuff after arriving home last night from the Lyons river festival which is just out of Boulder, CO. It was a fun weekend of Freetsyle and just general mucking around for me. Unfortunately I missed the registration for the Extreme Race but it was still a great event, well done to the organisers. So now I'm looking forward to this weeks big event... FIBArk (first in boating the arkansas). I had a great time last year and I'm looking forward to another awesome weekend of boating.

So here is the schedule of events:

Thursday kicks of the event with the Pine Creek BoaterX... Fridays sees the Freestyle take center stage with the prelims... then Saturday hosts the Hooligan Race followed by the Freetyle Finals.

It should be a huge event this year with a prediction of 30,000 people coming to Salida to watch, participate and help out with the event.

Here are some shots of me in the Salida playhole to keep you going until the event.

North Fork of the South Arkansas

So a week or so ago Nicole, Chris Menges and I went for a drive to check out a small creek that Chris has been wanting to run for a while and had done some clean up work on earlier in the spring as well. After scouting for an hour we decided that we wouldn't run the upper drops as more wood had accumulated since Chris had cleaned up the run, but the double drop looked good to go. After re-scouting for a while we geared up and set up the cameras. I probed it with a clean line first up, but once I got to the bottom I was informed that the camera wasn't running... So I fired it up again with an average line but atleast I didn't crash and burn. Chris then fired er up while I filmed. Unfortunatly Chris had a rough line and pitoned twice, but thanks to the Rockers uni-shock bulkhead system his ankles were fine.

oh how i love to pack. it seems like every time i pack for a trip i end up throwing out half my belongings just to make my pack passable at the airport and to save my credit card $88per/kg over the limit i go. yes $88per/kg... i found out that awesome fact the other day from my travel agent so know i'm packing and weighing, packing and weighing to make sure i don't get charged.

i can't wait for the stressing to be over and just get to colorado and go kayaking.

thanks to mum and dad for giving me a place to stay over the last month or so.

i'm at home in New Zealand right now just finishing up work and packing everything before heading to colorado again for the summer on may 15th.
